F*Cancer 2019: “Fighters” – Kimmie Murray –

Welcome to the 2019 F*Cancer Blog – “Fighters”

This is a raw, unedited look in to the lives of those that have been personally affected by cancer. We wanted to be able to use our resources as a platform for individuals to share their take and outlook on a terrible disease. This nine week program will feature a different fighter each Friday leading up to the launch of the 2019 F*Cancer program in June. We stand with all those who have been affected and want to make positive strides to further education, awareness, and support. We are now in the third week of the blog campaign and we are honored to bring you Kimmie Murray’s story.

Gearing up to Win

“Let me begin by saying thank you to those who have been following my journey and sharing my experiences along the way”, Kimmie said. Kimmie’s story is one of recent discovery. It was in February, 2018 that she first noticed a lump on the side of her breast. While abnormal, it was not a concern at first, as there were not a lot of symptoms that would connect the lump to cancer. However, it was on January 31st, 2019 that she first laid her eyes on the mass that was located in her right breast. After traveling to different specialists attempting to get to the bottom of what exactly was going on, February 12th, she got the call. The tumor was malignant.

While it was difficult news for Kimmie to hear, she held a belief in her heart that “everything was going to be alright”. It was the people that surrounded her during this trial in her life that gave her this confidence. Her loving husband Bob and her specialist at Willamette Valley Cancer Institute that gave her piece of mind and inspired her to stay strong.

“Had I went in when I found the lump, I would not be in the situation that I am now”, Kimmie said with confidence. “Please keep sharing and make your appointments to go and get your boobies squeezed. Don’t be like me and wait until it gets too out of hand. I know I can kick this in the butt, and that is what I am going to do with the continued help and encouragement from my friends and family.”

And so she fights. Keeping record of every day, Kimmie has been documenting her journey since the beginning. Like most in her position she has had her share of good and bad days. However, through all of these days she holds her belief that team Kimmie Murray is on a mission. A mission to spread awareness on getting mammograms done. “I don’t care if you’re young or old, if you suspect anything at all, get your mammogram done. Make sure everything is alright and put your mind at ease.”, Kimmie stated.

Through the experience of sharing Kimmie’s story, we have come to realize the positivity that surrounds her life through this battle. She is a light and wants others to educate themselves from her experiences. In her final words she stated that she was “Going to enjoy a bowl of chocolate fudge brownie ice cream, because you never know what tomorrow will bring after my chemo.”

Kimmie is prepared for the future and what it has in store for her. She would like her supporters to always remember that “Sharing is caring” and that she is going to “kick some cancer ass!”
